DGL (Aust) Pty Ltd

Dangerous Goods

Transport and Storage of Dangerous Goods is subject to special regulations, regarding extended safety measurements and careful handling. These goods are potentially dangerous to people, property and the environment.

Goods are considered as "DG" when they are corrosive, flammable, explosive, combustible, toxic, oxidising or water reactive. Substances like pool chlorine, liquified petroleum gas (LPG) and ammonium nitrate fertiliser are only a few examples for dangerous goods. Goods considered as hazardous do not fall into the category of dangerous goods since they only have an impact on the basis of health effects in medium and long term, therefore they fall under a different legislation.

The dangerous goods storage and handling regulations apply to those who manufacture, import, supply, store and handle them. Basis for these regulations is the "National Standard for the Storage and Handling of Dangerous Goods", which is issued by "The National Occupational Health and Safety Commission" (NOHSC).

DGL is compliant to all regulations and ensures the safe handling, transport and storage of Dangerous Goods. The introduction of the 7th Edition of the Australian Dangerous Goods Code implicates new and higher safety standards, i.e. higher insurance coverage, stronger chain of responsibility provisions and specific duties on consignors to prevent the movement of goods too dangerous to be transported. DGL monitored this development from commencement and is already prepared for the Dangerous Goods Code 7 to be legislated.
